Proud of its lineage as one of the first library schools in Asia dating back to 1914, UP SLIS continues to lead the library profession in the Philippines though its pedagogy, research, and extension services while constantly evolving today as to form information professionals that understand the value of creating, preserving, disseminating, accessing, and using information in various forms across different contexts & industries.
Our Program
Innovative Program: Explore an interdiciplinary curriculum with limitless possibilities

Bachelor of Library and Information Science

BLIS (Bachelor of Library and Information Science) under UP’s Science and Technology Cluster, is an innovative and interdisciplinary program that aims to develop well-rounded graduates who are able to:

  • Manage information resources, services, tools, and organizations
  • Assess information needs and design responsive information services for diverse users and communities
  • Apply ethical and legal principles in handling information issues faced by individuals, organization, and societies
  • Appreciate the dynamic relationship between information, technology, and society to develop information systems
  • Conduct research using LIS tools and concepts towards the expansion of knowledge in the field and develop solutions to information-related problems

BLIS is a four (4) year, 138 unit program that allows students to:

  • Develop a broad foundation in library and information science (LIS)
  • Pursue minor programs within and beyond the School
  • Design a program of study in preparation for medical school, law school, or other graduate programs

Meet the Faculty

Our stellar full-time faculty members are the youngest in UP-Diliman (average age: 36!). Students generally describe them as – passionate, vibrant, and (super) supportive. Their backgrounds range from librarianship to computer science, film archiving to technology management.

Our students come from all walks of life with a variety of interests and with a shared passion for inclusion, innovation, service, and excellence. The School houses a number of college organizations, the best student council (ever), and a handful of informal groups including sports teams and gaming enthusiasts.
